Table tennis team proves to be a challenge in local game

MERCEDES proved too classy in the finals of division 1 Mackay Table Tennis Tuesday night fixtures.

The Mercedes team of Sara Patterson, Andrew McHugh and Graham Brake won 6-4 over Jaguar (Lee Brake, Neil Brown, Janice Kent), but didn’t have it all their own way.

Down 5-3, Jaguar needed a win from Janice Kent over Andrew McHugh to stay in the match. Janice lost the first two games 7 and 7, but fought back to win the next two 12 and 8 before Andrew closed it out 11-6.

It was a case of what might have been, as Lee beat his dad Graham in the next match, and if Janice had won it would have been 5-all, with Sara (Mercedes) and Neil (Jaguar) to play.

Honda (Steve Mathieson, Val Austin and Will VanDeKaa) beat Toyota (Tiffany Camilleri, Kevin Scates, Peter Goodson) 6-4 in the division B final, but again they didn’t have it all their own way.

Peter beat Val in a tight five-game struggle to keep his side in the match, down 5-4, but Will held on to down Tiffany in four games to wrap up the win.

The next season of senior night fixtures will start after the school holidays.  If you’d like to play table tennis, contact Donna 0400 769 560.
