Souths First Grade played the Magpies Cricket Club at Magpies home ground.

Souths won the toss and batted on a wicket that proved to be a little slow and difficult to score runs on.

Souths Skipper, Shaun Austin, batted patiently and then hit out lustily at the end to compile an unbeaten score of 124 off 112 deliveries.

Shaun’s innings pushed Souths final score to 9/182.

Magpies started the chase quite well, but lost the big wicket of Skipper, Rhys McBride at 37.

Tight bowling by young Ed Cullen with 2/15 off eight and with Mick Bugeja 3/26 off eight made scoring difficult.

Magpies rebuilt the innings through Luke Pietzner (42) and Darren Smith (40 not out).

Magpies needed 14 off the last over.

Thanks to the experience of Nathan Price, he restricted Magpies to only seven from the last over, which left the Magpies seven runs short of the target.
