Old school goes new school

SOME old-school Mackay locals may recognise this car which always put on a great show down the Palmyra drag strip in back in the ’90s. It has now been rebuilt bigger and badder – and on the race track its settings are on kill! What is this little micro machine, you may ask? It’s a 1984 Suzuki hatch with a turbo 4g54 Mitsubishi (Magna) engine, 2 speed power glide, has run 8.83 seconds @148mph over the 1/4 mile.

IN ACTION: Small, yet powerful

SOME old-school Mackay locals may recognise this car which always put on a great show down the Palmyra drag strip in back in the ’90s.

It has now been rebuilt bigger and badder – and on the race track its settings are on kill! What is this little micro machine, you may ask? It’s a 1984 Suzuki hatch with a turbo 4g54 Mitsubishi (Magna) engine, 2 speed power glide, has run 8.83 seconds @148mph over the 1/4 mile.

It was originally owned and built by Scott Sach (father) In the ’90s and was Australia’s quickest four-cylinder sedan for a while. He then sold the car and his son purchased it back in 2016. He fully rebuilt the car, including updating the chassis and keeping up with the current safety and tech regulations for modern-day drag racing.

Adrian has done a phenomenal job bringing this car back to life and keeping it local. If you want to see this beast blast down the track then you can see it at most race meets out at Palmyra Drag racing track.
