OVER the next week the Mackay region will play host to a number of Australia’s leading PGA Professionals as the adidas PGA Pro-Am Series makes its way to Mackay.

Three tournaments will take place in the region with the Sarina, Mackay and Pioneer Valley Golf Clubs each playing host to Adidas PGA Pro-Am Series events boasting $11,000 each in prize money.

May 28 CMR Mackay Pro-Am $11,000
May 30 De Goey Contractors Pioneer Valley Pro-Am $11,000

Queensland PGA Professional and former winner of the Fiji International, Steven Jeffress, is thrilled to return to the Mackay region where he has tasted success in the past.

“I really enjoy the golf course in Mackay. It really suits the way I play given it is tight in places, you need to be strategic and ultimately you need to take your opportunities when they come,” Jeffress said.

"I have great memories at Mackay having won in a playoff at the very start of my career and now 17 years on, I hope I can be competitive again.”

Other notables in Mackay for the week include recently crowned Victorian PGA Champion Chris Wood, European Tour winner Sam Brazel and Tim Hart who won the tournament when it was last played in 2019.

Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson said it was tremendous to have such a high calibre of golf and talent on show across the region.

“It’s great that the Pro-Am series is expanding to include Sarina, Mackay and the Pioneer Valley this year,” Mayor Williamson said.

“Being a feeder tour to the PGA Tour of Australasia, this will be a fantastic opportunity for golf enthusiasts in our region to be able witness an elite level of play.

“There will also be opportunities for locals to develop their game, with coaching clinics on offer around the tournament.

“Of course, it’s also a real coup for our regional economy. The event will attract about 220 golfers for five nights, which will provide about $320,000 in economic stimulus to the region.”
