Local store owner competes in first Iron Man
CORRY'S Cycles owner Evan Corry came back from his first Iron Man in Cairns last Sunday.
Mr Corry said while it was a long day, he had an absolute blast as he pushed himself.
"It's definitely an experience - I've done plenty of endurance events in the past, but the Iron Man is certainly a bit more whole body pain, with that Marathon run. You can't escape that pain," Mr Corry said.
"Initially, the hardest thing is probably staying under control and keeping an level head an...not going too hard, too early.
"You're out there basically, from sun up to sun down. It's such a big build up, the number of days leading up to it, where you can easily lose focus."
Mr Corry said he made sure he kept a level head while he focused on the end goal - "to finish strongly".
Once the Iron Man was finished, he said "the body wants to crash".
"I certainly didn't sleep well that night, despite being dog tired. The body is a bit too sore," he said.
"Probably not until 48 hours later, you feel a little bit more human again."
