Cutters up for tough game
THE Mackay Cutters have had arough season so far this year, firstly going down against the Redcliffe DOlphins, followed by a loss to the Burleigh Bears.
However, tomorrow the cutters will be goign toe to toe with the PNG Hunters for a shot at redemption.
Gates open at 3 pm, with pregame entertainment at 4pm Hastings Deering Colts, the game set kick off at 6 pm at the BB stadium home of the Cutters.
With the Easter long weekend the boys were able to rest up and gather their wits for the coming match lucky this year every three four weeks QRL have got a weekend off which gives the players time to recuperate before the next Intrust Super Cup game.
“It helps with the travel and it helps around work commitments keeps them fresh hopefully they turn up today ready to go,” Cutters coach Michael Crawley said.
Some changes to the line up for tomorrows team lists as Shane Wright and Ben Condon are both to play NRL with the Cowboys as they have been selected this weekend for the Cowboys match
“Emry Pere is back this week and Michael Bell will be with us again and Kane Bradley will play his first game for the cutters he was a new sign on for the cowboys back in the pre-season, “he said.
Coach Crawley also spoke about the first few matches being a valuable learning experience for with the first few matches being with teams from the Grand final teams in 2019.
“We wanted to get a couple a wins out of them but we have been competitive, that’s not good enough” he said.
“This weekend we face a little be of a different side in PNG side they run really hard they tackle hard, There aggressive there is no way of getting through the game without plenty of bumps and bruises,
“We got to be prepared for that but I think our last two games certainly put us in good step we have learn a few lessons around that especially around ball control so we are going to have to be good in that area as well,“he said.
This match up will be very physically straining and a new challenge for some of the more inexperienced players on the cutters team
“They like to come straight over the top of you need to be ready,”
“You need to be prepared for a real physical contest there is no way you are getting around it with PNG so that’s the way they like to play footy so we are going to have to be prepared
“That obviously have a few strategy’s ourselves which might cause them a few problems, “He said.
While next match seems difficult for the boys in the Cutters coach Crawley is optimistic he believes hard training doesn’t guarantee anything in footy and that the team needs to get out on the day and play there best.
“It’s another test for us and we have fallen short the last two so it’s really important for us that we get a win and work really hard on that the win will come,” he said
“If we get the processes right so we understand that we got to get into a grind we got to take our chances when they come and we got to be reliance for longer periods that’s our goal for this weekend,“.
