Damien Russell won the toss and Norths went onto field on a very hot and muggy day. North’s Mackay Cricket Club got away to a good start and claimed a couple of early wickets.

Then came Pinnacle’s, Andrew McLellan who scored 59 runs and Carey Fry scored 47, which took Pinnacles score up to a reasonable total on a very green and slow outfield.

Some late bashing by Pinnacle’s bottom order got the innings total up to a solid 158 runs.

Pinnacle knew their were some key North batters to keep quiet to win the game.

Pinnacle’s opening combination of James Cross and Matt Woodland kept the run rate low and captured a couple of key early wickets.

After the opening bowlers, Norths then stepped it up getting some fast runs.

Pinnacles made a few changes to the bowling lineup, which saw some wickets fall.

However the North’s still had a good chance of upsetting the Pinnacle, as the outfield became quicker.

With only 25 runs to win off the final 24 balls, both teams were eyeing off the win.

James Cross came back into the attack to only let six runs go off his final three overs keeping things tough for Norths.

Pressure was on Captain Damien Russell who bowled the last over of the day.

Damien got two wickets, with two catches by Nathan Vassallo.

Then Ashley Fry scored a run out in the last over and so Pinnacle managed a win by 5 runs.

Pinnacles Major Sponsor was Elders Insurance Mackay and Pioneer Valley & Isaac Player of the Match was awarded to Darrin Campman for his handy two wickets and for achieving 50 club wickets for Pinnacle.

Other mentions for the day were voted player of the match between both captains and Andrew McLellan top scoring on the day with 57 runs.

This win keeps Pinnacle on top of the ladder for the 4th Grade Competition.
