Brothers claim first win for 2021

Mackay Rugby Union kicked off Rd five with all matches held under lights last Friday Night.
Brothers hosted Slade Point, at a windy Leprechaun park.
Brothers forwards made early meters and eventually crossed for the first try of the game, but Slade point quickly fired back with a five pointer of their own, both teams traded blows but a Slade point yellow card ensured Brothers were able to gain some ascendency going into the half leading 24 v 12.
The second half was again tightly contested but this time with two Brothers in the bin Slade point made their move late a scoring two try’s in the last 10 to bring them within a point. A penalty kick to Brothers in overtime sealed the match though for Brothers Claiming the win 35 v 31.
Whitsunday Raiders would host the Bowen Mudcrabs at the Whitsunday sports park.
Whitsunday again showed they are the benchmark of the Competition.
An early try to Regan Broughton got the Raiders off to a flyer but Bowen gathered themselves and the game became a solid grind until the Raiders crossed again just before the half.
The second half was all Raiders as they Ran in three try’s to 0 to take match 29 v 0 and re-enforced their position at the top of the ladder.
The final game saw a close battle between Mackay City and Kuttabul with City taking the win 20 v 18 to round out the matches for this week.
