Bikers ready to get down, dirty

THE Whitsunday Dirt Bike Riders will hold a Club Day on the Dirt tomorrow. It’s an event five-to-seven years in the making; held under lights with racing expected to start at 2:30pm, continuing until 8.30pm.

While the track has been pre- dominately a practice track up until now, the club has been working hard to get in shape to hold races.

With the previous race day having more than the 55 riders in attendance, tomorrow’s expectations are high with more expected to turn out to the event.

Whitsunday Dirt bike riders vice president Ben Moran said it has been some hard work to finally get this race mees underway.

“It’s finally happening,” Moran said.

“We are expecting anything up to 70 riders this weekend.

“The race will be open to children with 50cc bikes, right through to 450cc opens, so there will be more than 12 categories of riding.

“With permanent lighting on the track, which we have been trying very hard to get, this will be our first race meeting will be under lights.”
