You can clean up your act with Orange Sky
Maybe you are couch-surfing with friends or in-between rental accommodation.
Or perhaps your washing machine has broken down and you need to get the kids clothes washed and dried as soon as Possible.
That is where Orange Sky comes in.
In late 2014, two 20-year-old Brisbane students installed a couple of washing machines and dryers in the back of their old van and visited parks in town to wash and dry clothes for free.
What started as an idea to improve hygiene standards and restore dignity to people doing it tough has evolved into something much bigger.
Orange Sky now operates 31 services in locations around Australia including right here in Mackay where they provide clothes washing and drying services at four locations on Monday, Wednesday, Friday each week.
On Monday it is at the Sarina Neighbourhood Centre from 9am to 11am, Wednesday 6am to 8am and 9am to 11am at Mackay Vinnies and again on Friday from 11.30am to 1.30am.
But they also roll out their Orange Sky van, complete with washing machines and dryers on board, at the ADRA Op Shop on alternate Mondays (during Meals on Milton) and at CASA accommodation on Fridays 9am to 11am.
According to the 2016 Census, 400 people are experiencing homelessness in Mackay region on an on-going basis and a service like that offered by Orange Sky is the sort of practical help you only want when you need it.
