A WOMAN who met a man on an internet dating site, and then allegedly went to his house and stole his keys and his car has been refused bail and remanded in custody after appearing in Mackay Magistrates Court yesterday.

The woman, 35, is alleged to have fled from Bundaberg and is charged with stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving an uninsured car, obstructing police, and failing to take reasonable care of drug utensils and hypodermic syringes.

The court was told the defendant did not have anywhere to live in Mackay.

Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan said the defendant ‘has recently been placed on parole and is facing seven offences and five of failing to appear in Court, plus she has also been the perpetrator of domestic violence’.

“I have no confidence whatsoever that (she) will appear in Court and I considered her to be an unacceptable risk,” Magistrate Hartigan observed.

“All the other matters are so serious that bail is refused, and she will remain in custody to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court … and there are also charges to be heard from the Proserpine, Bundaberg and Mackay Courts.”

The matters were remanded to a date in July.
