AGED-care provider Ozcare celebrated a major milestone in Mackay this week.

The not-for-profit organisation marked its 25th birthday together with the one-year anniversary of the opening of the 120-bed Ozcare Mackay Aged Care Facility – a new state-of-the art aged-care home with permanent, respite and dementia care.

“We’re so pleased to be able to celebrate with our residents who have been on the journey with us throughout the past 12 months, and it is now time to show our appreciation to them,” Ozcare Mackay Facility Manager Anne Crowley said.

“We are very focussed on creating a community and get a lot of interest from our families about our plans to open up a retirement living adjacent to our facility because family members are very keen to remain close to their loved ones in aged care.”

Since its opening, Ozcare Mackay has continued to welcome new residents on a weekly basis, with the 103rd resident arriving at the facility this week, pushing the total capacity to nearly 90 per cent full.

Ozcare Business Operations Manager Todd English said the challenges of opening during a global pandemic were significant, but Ozcare was focussed on meeting the demand for high-quality care in Mackay throughout the first year of operating the new site.

“Our priority has always been on ensuring the health and safety of our residents, recruiting quality staff who are dedicated to meeting their needs, and following the guidelines laid out by the federal and state government health authorities,” Mr English said.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from the local community and the interest from seniors and their families – they are part of a new wave of seniors who want an innovative lifestyle community within their reach, with a focus on service delivery, community infrastructure, hospitality and allied health facilities.
