Mayor urges Mackay residents to get jab

MACKAY Mayor Greg Williamson urged residents to get their COVID-19 jabs after Townsville was sent into a three day lock down today.

Mayor Greg WIlliamson said the delta variant had a five second exposure transfer rate

Mayor Williamson said he was concerned about the delta variant arriving in Queensland, where he urged people to “Jump online to the COVID site, book a vaccination”.

He said the latest medical advice was people who have received their jabs were advised to not mix doses.

“(I’m) very concerned and everybody in Australia, in all of the health departments, are very concerned with this delta variant,” he said.

“It has a rapid transfer rate – five second exposure. That’s why we’ve been saying, all a way along the line, don’t be too complacent.”

Mayor Williamson said people arriving from COVID hot spots would have to wear a mask and that police will enforce isolation, where they will meet people upon arrival at airports.

“The state disaster controller, which is Queensland’s top cop, was just on the line with us now and they are putting all of their resources, dragging it off everything police normally (do) and put it into COVID management,” Mayor Williamson said.

He encouraged people to isolate, and to get tested, if they don’t feel well.
