Mackay and Whitsunday regions forecasted to receive rain and strong winds
THE BUREAU of Meterology forecasted a trough was aligned across the Cape York Peninsula that extends into the monsoon trough over the Coral Sea.
A deepening tropical low was embedded into the monsoon trough offshore of Cairns and expected to deepen further over the next few days.
This could develop into a tropical cyclone on Tuesday morning.
A ride extends from a high near New Zealand onto the east coast south of the monsoon trough, but a second trough over interior parts will move slowly eastwards over the next few days.
It will extend offshore of southeast coastal parts early on Wednesday.
The BOM data reported that the week will see a high chance of rain with overcast weather and strong winds, along with the possibility of a thunderstorm from today.
