Crushing start dates announced in Mackay region

CANEGROWERS Mackay Area Committee, the Australian Cane Farmers’ Association and Mackay Sugar Limited are happy to announce the anticipated start dates of the sugar cane crushing season 2021.

It has been agreed that anticipated start dates for 2021 season are to be scheduled as follows –

• Farleigh Mill - Thursday 3 June 2021

• Marian Mill - Thursday 10 June 2021

• Racecourse Mill - Friday 11 June 2021

As usual, the start dates are dependent upon weather conditions and successful steam trials at each mill.

With an estimate of 5.3m tonnes of cane for crushing, the season indicates a further increase in crop to previous years, which is a testament to the region’s growing sector’s potential.

Over the ensuing week, a dramatic increase in cane train and haul out vehicles will be noticed across the district.

These are large, slow moving vehicles which must be given right of way and respect by the general public.

We would also like to remind the public, that sugar cane railway lines and sidings, as well as sugarcane farms are NOT public areas and are private property and worksites to which normal workplace conditions and inductions apply.

Fines can apply if you are found trespassing on these areas.

The safety of our industry workers as well as the general public is the single most important factor to our harvest period.

Please be vigilant and respectful as we wish for an accident free crush season.

The Parties undertake to keep you informed of the progress of the 2021 harvest.

We also take this opportunity to extend sincere wishes to all growers, harvesting contractors, millers, Mackay Sugar employees and all other persons being part of the sugar value chain, for a safe and productive crushing season.
