COVID-19 testing clinic temporarily moves to old fire station building

THE Mackay Showgrounds COVID-19 drive-through testing clinic will temporarily relocate to the old fire station building on the corner or Sydney and Alfred Streets.

The clinic will move from the Showgrounds on Wednesday June 9 to make way for the set-up of the Mackay Show and remain at the temporary location while the show is in action.

Mackay HHS COVID-19 Team nurse unit manager Megan Dale said the clinic will resume Thursday 10 June and testing hours will remain the same.

“People who require a COVID-19 test can now be tested at our clinic in the old fire station building,” Megan said.

“There is no change to the testing hours. Our staff will continue to provide the testing service from 8am to 4pm, seven days a week.”

Ms Dale said signage will clearly direct people to the clinic.

“Entry to the clinic is via Sydney Street and we ask people to just follow the signs,” she said.

“When you arrive, we’ll take your details, do a screening for your symptoms and COVID-19 risk, and test you.

“It’s important you stay in your car and turn off your engine when you arrive.”

Appointments are required for COVID-19 testing and can be booked through the Queensland Health portal.

“If people can’t book online, they can call the local COVID-19 community hotline on 4885 5666 from 8am to 4pm seven days a week and the team will assist you,” she said.

“People who arrive at the clinic without a booking will be required to scan a QR code on site and book the next available testing spot.”

The drive-through clinic will return to the showgrounds on Thursday 24 June at 8am.
