2021 cane crushing season underway
Farleigh Mill, about 15kms north of Mackay is the first factory to fire up for the region as the 2021 cane crushing season begins.
CRUSHING has started in the Mackay region with the first of the crop being put through Mackay's Farleigh mill.
Mackay Sugar cane supply manager Jason Walton told Mackay Local News the mill had started yesterday, a day ahead of schedule.
However, planned dated for Marian and Racecourse starts had been pushed back - with Racecourse expected to come online by June 11 and Marian in operation by June 15.
"It's had to be pushed back a little just because of a couple of unforeseen things which have come up, but so far so good for Farleigh."
Crushing at Willmar mills - in Plane Creek, at Sarina and Proserpine Mill - is expected to begin on June 8.
