Memorable family day on the way

BIG four Whitsundays Tropical Eco Resort director Aaron Barton is creating a memorable family event in the whistsundays

By Andrew Sorensen

He said the family friendly event was an ideal way for families to enjoy some precious time together.

The Whitsundays ripper Rod Family Fishing Competition will be held on May 1 and 2.

Mr Barton said he was looking forward to the competition starting but added it was for in house guests.

He said there was a $15 entry with three divisions for mens, womens and under 12s and eight different species of fish.

He explained the main focus of the event will be on conservation and being environmentally friendly.

What this means is that fish caught had to be returned to the water, unless fishers wanted to eat it for dinner.

However, the fish also had to be alive for photos as well.

Mr Barton said the competition had its origins in the middle of 2020, where he expressed an interest in better supporting a businesses.

In particular, he wanted to help a water focused business.

He soon realised it was better to be supporting a local business as it would promote the Whitsundays region and bring more people into the region.

With all of these ideas coming together, he realised this would be an ideal way to raise awareness about conservation.

He said his business was ecotourism certified, meaning it was environmentally friendly and took advantage of the region’s beautiful environment for tourists to enjoy.

All of this came together as he realised EcoBarn would be the best business to support and promote.

Mr Barton said they have owned the resort since 2016 and developed a ten year plan.

Even with some of the interruptions they face, he said that everything was slowly but surely coming together as part of their ten year plan.
