Third Mackay Chamber Music Festival to return
AFTER a brief hiatus imposed by COVID-19, the third Mackay Chamber Music Festival will run from July 17 to 18.
Artistic director and violinist Glenn Christensen said, while it is in a lite format, he is happy to see it return.
While he is unable to travel to Mackay, Mr Christensen is currently a principal violinist in Germany, performing for the world-renown Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
He said the festival
was his idea, but hosted at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music and supported by Central Queensland University.
“I’m so happy that after a terrible year for so many people, we can finally bring this festival back to Mackay to celebrate the joy of live-music making,” he said.
“Even though international border restrictions mean I can’t be there in person this year, I’m thrilled that I can continue to help give back to a wonderful community that gave me so much as I was growing up.”
He said Simon Cobcroft, who is the principal cello for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and Angela Turner, Pianist for Lyrebird Trio will perform a recital and direct masterclasses for music students.
The recital will feature works for cello and piano by Beethoven, shostakovich and Australian composer Nigel Westlake.
The masterclasses will focus on improving students performances, while providing insights into the life of a professional musician.
