Hibiscus Coast District Scouts district commissioner Katrina Hoare said now is the time for young families to try out new things and push boundaries.

“We’ve got all these adventurous activities every weekend,” Ms Hoare said.

“They can ask about scouting, get the kids out of the house."

Try The Five is open to families with young children aged five and up to enjoy, where she encourages parents to bring their little ones along.

Spread across January 31, February 13 and 21, the scouting events will feature canoeing, abseiling, and much more.

“This year, we really wanted to get scouting out there,” she said

“This is a big year for scouting here in Mackay.”

The district commissioner said the main purpose of the event was to promote the many benefits and skills that the Hibiscus Coast Scout District teaches.

“We spent twelve months getting ourselves in a position – since it all started – When we could start scouting activities again, we could just go,” she said.

“So we decided to go ourselves.”

The first event for Try The Five is on Sunday, January 31 and will allow children to enjoy canoeing.

Further information about Try The Five is available on the Hibiscus Coast Scout District’s Facebook page and will be based out of Rowallan Park.
