YOU are invited to savour the seaside air, the soulful sounds of local musicians and the treasures of crafty marketeers at the newest Mackay Festival of Arts event, Savour Seaforth. Coming to the Seaforth Esplanade this Sunday (July 25) from noon to 4pm, Savour Seaforth will be the perfect excuse to dust off the family picnic blanket and simply soak up the relaxed atmosphere.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the free event would be a low-key afternoon of great music in one of the most picturesque locations in our region. “Come for a drive and set yourself up under the trees of the long, grassy esplanade and enjoy the musical talents of four tremendous locals,” Mayor Williamson said. “Unfortunately, COVID has struck again and our closing act for Savour Seaforth, Jess Hitchcock, is stuck in the extended Melbourne lockdown,” he said. “But her replacement, Matt Tandy is a perfect fit for this event.

Matt will fill the 3 o’clock closing slot with his brand of soulful sounds and his love for delta blues, reggae and soul. “He’s a bit of a hidden gem in our region – he’s a brilliant guitar player and has some serious song-writing talents.” Matt will join Bella Mackenzie, Tate Obst, Dana Falzon and emcee Cristy-Lee Macqueen from ABC Tropical North on stage. Mayor Williamson said there would be food vendors at the event but encouraged resident to bring a picnic if they wished.

“This isn’t a licenced event, so please leave the hard stuff at home, but feel free to bring a spread in your basket and enjoy some time on the grass,” he said.

“In fact, I’d really encourage you to come a little early – the Seaforth Community Market will be held from 8.30am to 11.30am adjacent to the event along the Seaforth beach front, under the mango trees.

“This market is always packed with arts, craft and plenty of homemade and homegrown food!” Savour Seaforth is proudly supported by ABC Tropical North.
