Mackay Musician Reimagines Happy Birthday for Late Father
CENTRAL Queensland Conservatorium of Music graduate Mitch Hagger today released a musical tribute video to commemorate his late father and celebrate his 57th birthday.
His father, Michael Steven Hagger, lost his four-year long battle to lung cancer on 18 December 2019.
The song itself is an interpretation of the traditional ‘Happy Birthday’, with altered lyrics and melodies and Mitchell says he hopes the song provides comfort to others who are grieving.
“Taking the time to consciously remember and celebrate a loved-one’s life is crucial to grieving and keeps their legacy alive,” he said.
“When we were told he only had a couple of months left, I was grateful I could take time to be with dad, mum and the family and relish in the memories, while learning all of the stories of Dad’s life that I had never heard.”
Mitch is currently working on a biographical, concept album to preserve the story of his father's life through music.
It tells the tales of his childhood, as a family of poor English immigrants finding their feet in outback Northern Territory and Queensland, through the trials and tribulations of life, to the aftermath of his passing.
Mitch’s family encourages people to make a donation, big or small, to Cancer Council Queensland.
If you or someone you know is affected by cancer, Cancer Council Queensland offers a variety of support services.
