Celebrate the 95 year anniversary of MaD Pipe Band

THE MaD Pipe Band (Mackay and District) celebrates it's 95 year anniversary this year with a weekend of free community events.

Mackay's Scottish heritage will be acclaimed with the skirl of the bagpipes, the beat of drums, the leaping and prancing of highland dancers and will rock out with Celtic music.

The Mayor, dressed in his kilt, will open the 'Fling' at 3pm on Saturday 10 July at the Bluewater Quay.

As his descendants are from the Gunn Clan he is an ally of the Mackay Clan so past feuds will be forgotten and harmony will ensue.

The entertainment continues as the Fling performers continue the music at Goosies.

Learn Scottish Country dancing called by experienced teacher and dance caller Margaret Silke from Townsville accompanied by International accordion player Iain McKenzie.

The march across the Forgan Bridge will have a contingent of over 80 pipers and drummers from 6 different pipe bands that have travelled from all over Qld. It really is a truly awesome spectacle.

The event is not only about the pipe band but it is gaining a reputation as a Mackay destination event.
