Whitsunday Games a Real Blast
WHITSUNDAY Ballers, a Conway-based gel blasting group, holds game days and community events are generally held fortnightly for people aged 10 and over.
The not-for-profit group is run by volunteers who and play on an insured field. Gel blasters, also known as gel guns, are recreational guns which fire soft projectiles and are used in skirmish games similar to paintball. Whitsunday Ballers field two rival teams on game day.
The games cost $15, which includes the game fee, a sausage sizzle lunch and a free soft drink. Spectators are welcome to attend for a five-dollar fee which covers their sausage sizzle lunch and a free soft drink Blasters are available for hire and ammunition gels may either be bought at the site or players can bring their own.
The game starts at 9.00am and ends at 3.00pm Whitsunday Ballers aim to offer an affordable, safe, fun, family friendly place to come together. There are many positive social and emotional outcomes experienced by those who attend the gelblasting game days.
Event Organiser Shannon Taylor said, “It is great to see so many positive benefits, including team work, fitness and an overall improvement in social and emotional wellbeing.” Whitsunday Ballers’ next game day will be held on May 29. “We are also in the process of arranging a suicide prevention event in September,” Shannon said. “This is due to the high rates of people who suffer with mental health related issues in our region and the positive impacts Whitsunday Ballers have had on any individuals mental well-being to date.”
