THE beautiful Bluewater Trail will be the focus of this year’s National Tree Day in Mackay.

Mackay Regional Council is calling on volunteers to lend a hand at this year’s event, which will be held on Sunday, August 1, from 8.30am to 10.30am at Hume Street, under the Ron Camm Bridge.

The Bluewater Trail is a popular recreational area used by cyclists and pedestrians and will serve as the ideal location for this tree planting event, which is held in hundreds of locations across Australia each year.

The addition of new vegetation will not only enhance the visual amenity of the area, but it will provide critical habitat for native wildlife.

Council is aiming to plant up to 1250 plants over two days during School’s Tree Day (July 30) and National Tree Day.

Come down and get your hands dirty for a good cause by registering as a volunteer for National Tree Day atbit.ly/nationaltreedaymackay.

Please wear sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and bring a water bottle. If you have your own gloves and gardening equipment, please bring them along. A free barbecue will be provided to everyone who participates in this event.

Registrations close at 5pm on Wednesday, July 28.
