Real Mates ambassador and Hellacool Creamery owner Aaron Heremia said anyone can help their friends out if they were down and feeling blue.

“You just need to ask ‘What’s up mate?’,” Mr Herenia Said.

“You just need to listen and be there without judgement.

“Then you can work out how to get more help together.”

Around three-quarters of the people who die by suicide in the Whitsunday, Isaac and Mackay region were men.

Most of them did not reach out to their family or friends for help.

Real Mates Talk project Manager Michelle Borg said it was important to stay in touch with their friends, whether it was through a phone call, text, barbeque or even cricket on the beach.

“Real Mates Talk promotes and encourages the importance of real conversations with every single person across our region,” She said.
