Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is set to host the 2021 James Cook University Career Connect. The event is being held at the school on  August 4th  from 11 am until 6 pm and is open to both school students and the public. JCU Career Connect aims to promote employment and study opportunities for students as well as people looking for a career change or to re-enter the workforce.

The event will allow businesses, training organisations and tertiary education providers to showcase their organisations and the employment and training opportunities that are available in the Mackay community.

JCU Career Connect spokesperson Tracey Hocking said “We realise that some young people have to relocate to pursue their chosen career path but all too often we see them making this decision without realising what is available right here in Mackay.

"JCU Career Connect will not only present a broad range of career opportunities and information but also showcase to students, parents and the community what is available in their own region.”

The event will host a range of practical demonstrations highlighting the skills involved in different professions as well as break out rooms where industry experts and government providers will present information sessions.

“In essence, the event will be a one stop shop for everything career, “said Mrs Hocking. “It will cater for both university and vocational pathways, including apprenticeships and traineeships.

"Event-goers can come along and explore a range of opportunities and engage with exhibitors.” NDIS providers and employment agencies will also be in attendance. Exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities are still available for businesses and training providers wishing to take part in this important regional initiative.
