Clean Clothes for those who need it
OFFERING genuine conversations and a place for people to wash their clothes, Orange Sky supports those doing it tough.
Orange Sky volunteer Jane Manicuro, loves making a
difference simply by helping visitors.
Mrs Manicuro said some of the visitors, who are also known as friends, who used Orange Sky.
She said Friends of Orange Sky was catered towards people going through tough situations in life.
“We have friends come along and they’re from all situations of life. Some maybe homeless, some have gone through a marriage breakup,” Mrs Manicuro beamed.
“We have the chairs set out for them. We welcome them in and wash their clothes, where they’re welcome to sit down and have a chat.
“We talk about whatever they want to talk about. Some of our friends...they’re very happy to share their experiences.
“They can put them in the washing machine and dryer themselves. All the facilities are there for them.”
She said Friends can go there, where people would volunteer in shifts and offer help.
“We’ve found the more they come, the more comfortable they become in talking,” Mrs Manicuro said.
Friends of Orange has been running in Mackay for about four years.
“I like the idea of it. It’s a really great service, making people feel comfortable and make them feel supported,” she said.
“I found out about it through some friends. It’s a really good support system – really good service and a good need for it.”
The Orange Sky Laundry pods are available in the Juliet Street Vinnies and the Sarina Neighbourhood centre.
Mrs Manicuro said two shifts were currently available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Mackay: 7-9am and 9-11am.
She said the Sarina Neighbourhood Centre has two shifts running on Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9am and 9-11am.
