Agricultural focus for Science Experience
STUDENTS in years 9 and 10 will head to CQUniversity in Rockhampton for The Santos Science Experience these school holidays from 6 to 8 July.
The Santos Science Experience is a three-day program designed to engage students in a range of science-related activities, guided by scientists who are passionate about what they do.
This year’s Science Experience in Rockhampton has an agricultural focus where students will participate in rotational sessions for the first two days, and on the third day, students will be asked to solve a real-world problem using the information and experience they have gained in the previous days.
Parents are invited to come along on day three for a barbecue lunch and to watch students pitch their solutions to a panel of judges.
The event will predominantly take place at the Advanced Technology and Innovation Centre (Building 37) on the North Rockhampton campus but will also include an excursion to Belmont Research Station where students will be immersed in beef production and how technology can be used on farm.
Organiser and presenter, Dr Cara Wilson, said agriculture embodied all aspects of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) .
“It is a great theme to educate students about various career pathways, whilst also teaching people about where their food and clothing come from.”
